like all the other jiujitsukas talk about, That is, aside from a nasty
blue mark I got practicing ukemis when I pinned my own arm to the
ground with my knee... Still don't know how I did that.
Well, I was sitting at my desk this morning and noticed my left
forearm looked blotchy. I looked over to my right...same thing. Then
it hit me. I'm Black. My skin is dark. Unless a bruise is pretty
severe (like the one I got jumping over a row of chairs a few months
back...I gracefully tripped and got my leg wedged between two chairs)
it's not going to be super obvious. I took at some more spots and lo
and behold...bruises on my arms, one hand, thighs and a calve.
HAHAHAHA that's awesome. Man, when I first started, I constantly looked like a battered woman. I am super pale, so every little bruise I get shows up. I seriously looked spotted. lol
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteLike Allie I am very pale. I still get lots of bruises, I am going for the ripe banana look. Or maybe an all-over bruise.
Seriously, I do think I am finally starting to get fewer marks. Although practicing takedowns doesn't help.
LOL...yeah...I've heard that your skin starts to toughen up. I'm still paranoid of black eyes though. I don't have the makeup to cover up anything that serious.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's not that hard to cover black eyes. Do you wear glasses? A little concealer and a pair of glasses has worked so far for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd once they start to change colours they kinda look like crazy eye shadow.
But remember to ice it as soon as you can.
I don't wear glasses, but I'll remember the ice if I get one. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteI just got my first black eye. I gave it to my self in a very public, very embarrassing non-Jiujitsu related way. It wasn't too hard to cover up actually. Though, it wasn't very dark either.
I wear silver eye shadow.. so I just put on a little extra on the bruised eye lid... thankfully my bruise was above my eye on my brow bone, and not below it. That would have been harder to cover I think.
You know I'm dying to know how...that totally sounds like something I'd do.
ReplyDeleteBumps and bruises come and go. When I first started, I got all sorts of sympathy from my wife. Now, it's just the norm! The occasional busted lip/split nose does get attention... those I put on facebook ;) When I first started, everyone told me I looked like I was in "Fight Club" or something. Now, they just point and laugh! :D
