Gabrielle Garcia...started watching her stuff when I first started because I wanted to see how "big girls" do BJJ. None in the video, but watching her is crazy. Makes me wanna start CrossFit or something.
So yeah, I'm back in the home shopping process. It's been a LONG road with all the craziness going on in real estate in my state (Florida), but prices have dropped to reasonable levels and I've come to terms with the fact that my first house can't reasonably be my dream home, even if it does mean I'm in it for a long time.
I'm gonna be perfectly honest...every house I look at I ask the question "can I install mats here?" It might be a bit presumptuous, but 18 months in and I feel like I NEED to be able to train at home. Need.
A requirement has been a 2 car garage or an extra bedroom or den on the first floor. Ideally I want something permanent, but push come to shove, those little puzzle things could work.

Yeah, my gf is looking to buy a house at the moment, and I have to admit that what excites me most about the current option is the BJJ academy around the corner. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hear you Megan, I have an extra room in my home that I lay down dollamur flexiroll mats to practice in. I got mine from here(http://stores.ebay.com/Dollamur-Wrestling-Mats).
ReplyDelete@Slidey...I KNOW the location of my school has changed the area I'm looking at.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kage! I was looking for something permament, but these look like a great idea. How are they cleaning-wise?
pretty easy to clean just wipe them down with anti bacterial wipes and you're set to go. easy to take apart if need be. Or you can just lay them down permanently.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kage. I was dead set on something permanent...these might work either way.
ReplyDeleteHaha, Megan, I would be thinking the same thing! Good luck on the hunt! And also, Gabby Garcia is both awesome and terrifying at the same time. I believe she might be able to hip throw me over an entire building.
ReplyDeleteShe's super strong! But I am told (I'm no expert! just my trainer says..) that her power clean technique is poor and that oftentimes Crossfit isn't what it used to be. You may get better results, better technique, fewer injuries if you find someone to teach you oly lifting without "doing it for time" pressures. I've been learning the power clean for two weeks now and it's VERY technical and difficult to do without muscling the bar. :)
ReplyDeleteGeorgette, being new to fitness in general, the idea of Crossfit seems light years away. I feel like though, in a year or so, I'd like to start lifting and working more on cardio.
