THE best weight loss solution

Surprise! Yes. It's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I'm skipping the sheer loss of poundage this time and talking instead about the mental aspect. Over the last four months of skin infections and busted joints I've been inactive and have absolutely ruined my eating habits. I was in a boot for two weeks, off rolling for a month, quarantined for a week and spent 10 days stuffing my face twice a day, trying not to vomit up antibiotics...and it's not like I was loading up on broccoli and turkey breasts.

So yes, I've emerged from my hole of viruses, broken bones and bacteria noticeably fluffier. Pre-BJJ Megan would have been in a complete funk. But this morning, I looked at my fleshier middle and fuller thighs, marveling at how they now camouflage the grapply muscle I've picked up over the last two years. I chuckled and felt neither guilt nor shame. No disappointment or twinges of failure revisited. Nope. All I thought was "Look at how puffy you've gotten! You'll roll it off." The calmness was almost shocking, and I can't possibly understate the value of peace when it comes to weight management.

So I've been on a hair quest lately. I just got my highlights re-done, and getting my black hair to brown and deep blonde colors takes some pretty intense bleaching...even the really good quality color and followup protein treatments leave my dyed hair too fragile to survive rolling. A couple of the ladies at the gym use swim caps, but no way I'm covering my head in neoprene then trying to roll. I'd tap to my own sweatiness. Instead I wanted a dive cap, just made out of the stuff Underarmour's made of. I went on a quest to surf and dive shops, had a very interesting conversation with a shop owner about the exchange of heat between diving bodies and surrounding water and returned home empty handed.

This morning, one of my coworkers found the cap above (an accessory for zentai suits)...I have two on the way. I wanted to try an Underarmour skull cap, but I'm thinking there's no chance of that staying on. Test results will be posted soon.

...and I still love Defense soap's body wash. Hair and skin are very happy. Loving the wipes even more. I barely feel like I need a shower after training (though I still take one.)

  1. I'll be interested to hear how the rolling goes with the caps on. My hair is constantly getting ripped out, no matter how I braid it or pin it.

  2. Yeah...I'll definitely be posting a review. I have high hopes for this one.
